Welcome to the Interactive Suite
Play & Reflect
Here's how the Culinary Atlas' interactive suite works.
1
Start here
Tell us where you're from
In the Atlas, everything starts with place. Pin the county you grew up in and the one you call home now. It's how we map your food to the wider world table.
2
Play & remember
Sit down and play a while
Answer quiz questions, play swipe games, have us guess your dish.
3
LEAVE SOMETHING BEHIND
Add recipes and stories to the commons
Write down a recipe your family makes to keep it digitized in our public database forever. It joins the shared record so a stranger across the world over can cook it too. Nothing forgotten, everything passed on. We'll never share your recipes.
4
BECOME YOUR OWN DETECTIVE
Follow our idiocuisine investigation guide
When you're ready, use our templates and guides to interview your culinary influences (we recommend starting with elders for accuracy, or start with friends in a low-pressure hangout). Add them to your book and to the Atlas!
5
Leave something behind
Watch your personal food story book take shape
Your grandmother will croon over the book you'll print for her. The more you share, the more we can share back with you. Submit formally to the archive and your own cook's book you'll receive in a print-ready format when you've fulfilled everything in it. Add stories, photos, videos, or audio.
Your custom e-book is waiting.
Your Idiocuisine
Your "food story" is what we affectionately call an idiocuisine: a cuisine of your idiosyncrasies. It's made up of three parts: the body, the food culture, and unique influences in your life.
Not enough data yet — share the platform with your family to build this profile!
Idiocuisine profile chart will appear here once you complete the Oral History Quiz and 10+ Dish Scout responses.
Your story is what we affectionately call an idiocuisine: a cuisine of your idiosyncrasies.
Planned: pie chart of your top dish origins + comparison to your county average.
